Biography
Melek Cigdem joined the Institute in February, 2015 and is a Research Fellow within the Labour Economics and Social Policy research program. She was awarded a PhD in Economics in 2011 from La Trobe University and has since been employed as a Research Fellow within the Centre for Urban Research - RMIT University where she holds a joint post. She is currently working on an ARC project titled “Ending long-term homelessness permanently: How to make effective links between housing and long-term support” together with Dr Yi-Ping Tseng.
Research Interests / Current Projects
Melek’s other research interests include housing economics, program evaluation, urban renewal, mental health and wellbeing and intergenerational wealth transfers. Melek is currently a Project Leader on a project funded by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Insitute (AHURI) which investigates Australian demographic trends and their implications for housing subsidies. She is also a Chief Investigator on four ongoing externally-funded research projects relating to homelessness, intergenerational wealth transfers, housing affordability and homelessness.
