Economic and Social Disadvantage Research Program

The Melbourne Institute’s Economic and Social Disadvantage research program aims to address fundamental questions about economic and social disadvantage and inequality in the fields of employment, education, family, and health. A specific focus is given to the understanding of the factors leading to various forms of disadvantage and their consequences, as well as the study of appropriate and efficient policies to reduce inequalities.

Current research includes topics about food and housing insecurity, mental health and labour market outcomes, household behaviour, and determinants of child development, such as parenting style, parental conflict and separation, or sibling health.

The team is mainly funded by the Life Course Centre (ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course).
