Economics of Education and Child Development Research Program

Funded principally by a major grant from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (Victoria), the Melbourne Institute's Economics of Education and Child Development research program aims to address many fundamental questions about childhood development and education. For example, what public interventions support child academic, developmental and social outcomes, what type of organisational arrangements promote better student outcomes, how can students from disadvantaged backgrounds be supported in their development, how do peers influence the outcomes of students, what factors influence the decisions of young people to study in further education and training and what sources of information do they draw on in making these decisions. The research agenda ranges across early child development, the determinants of school student achievement, transitions from school to further education and training and institutional design and performance.
