Ms Lorna Hall, The Nielsen Company

Lorna Hall works as a survey methodologist and was The Nielsen Company's HILDA Project Director from its commencement in 2001, until 2007. Prior to HILDA, Lorna had a wealth of experience in survey methods work including the establishment of a large commercial survey panel using innovative technology for data collection. This panel is now over 20 years old. Lorna has also undertaken a range of challenging and large scale social research projects within AGB McNair and ACNielsen on behalf of the Federal Government as well as for a number of state governments.

Other roles include Operations Director which entailed providing leadership to develop and implement a range of operational and quality systems, the adoption of a range of technological innovations and giving direction for the enhancement of a major data collection software system. During this time Lorna was instrumental in achieving the first full company quality accreditation for a survey research organisation in Australia.

Lorna gained her survey methods skills at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, initially working in the Statistical Services Group and later in the Population Survey Group as well as consulting to state government departments. She has also worked as a research analyst, systems engineer, teacher and university tutor. Until recently Lorna was the National Treasurer of the Australian Market and Social Research Society. She is also a Qualified Practising Market Researcher.

Lorna was awarded the HILDA Survey Distinguished Service Award for 2007 in recognition of her unwavering commitment to managing the HILDA Survey fieldwork during the first six waves and the excellent fieldwork outcomes achieved by her team over that period.
