HILDA News - 2016

25-27 October

The National Centre for Longitudinal Data is holding the Longitudinal Data Conference 2016 from 25-27 October at the National Convention Centre in Canberra.The conference is Australia’s first major public event to focus on survey and administrative longitudinal data, the ways in which it can inform Australia’s social policy and the key policy questions that should be driving the research agenda.

The conference will bring together leading Australian and international researchers, policy-makers, policy influencers, leaders in data technologies, data modellers and analysts from across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. It will be of particular interest to professionals working with the Australian Government as well as State and Territory Governments.

26-29 September

Getting started: Analysing HILDA with Stata training course

A three (3) day hands-on introductory HILDA Survey training course will be held on 27-29 September 2016 at the University of Melbourne. A half-day (optional) introduction to Stata will also be provided on Monday 26 September. The course will be presented by Prof Robert Breunig, Acting Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University.

Time:        9.15am - 4.00pm
Venue:      The Spot, 198 Berkeley Street, University of Melbourne
Cost:         $860 ($570 for PhD and Masters students)

You do not need to have used the HILDA data or Stata before. You should have some experience with a statistical software package of some sort (eg SAS, SPSS, Stata).  While the course will be taught in Stata, SAS equivalent code will be provided.

Delegates need to register for and attend all three (3) days.

A reminder that the International Panel Data Conference, hosted by Curtin University, is being held in Fremantle on the 27-29 June 2016. More information about the event can be found on the conference website.

Waves 17-18
The Melbourne Institute is pleased to announce that its contract for the survey with the Australian Government (Department of Social Services) to manage the HILDA Survey has been extended to cover Waves 17 and 18.

Wave 15 response rate
Fieldwork for Wave 15 was completed on schedule and preliminary figures reveal that our sub-contractor, Roy Morgan Research, has again done an amazing job.

The re-interview rate for the main sample is projected to be 96.9% (our best result ever) and the re-interview rate for the top-up sample 95.0%.
