For all changes to the data that were made between Release 8.0 and Release 9.0:
- Changes to master file
- Changes to Wave 8 files
- Changes to Wave 7 files
- Changes to Wave 6 files
- Changes to Wave 5 files
- Changes to Wave 4 files
- Changes to Wave 3 files
- Changes to Wave 2 files
- Changes to Wave 1 files
Changes to Master File Between Releases 8.0 (February 2010) and 9.0 (December 2010)
- Highest level of education (_edhigh). An ABS adjustment for those with certificates I and II (ASCED codes 521 and 524) who had completed year 10 or 11 at school was introduced in release 5. This has been modified to take into account those who also had a post-school year 12 certificate (ASCED code 611). There is a small increase (< 20) in the number of cases with year 12 as the highest level of education (all waves).
Changes to Wave 8 Files Between Releases 8.0 (February 2010) and 9.0 (December 2010)
Corrections in calculations
- In-confidence release: hhhcd01, hhhmovek, hhhmovem for non-responding households. These were incorrectly overwritten with -9’s. Values now supplied.
- SCQ time use variables [waves 5 through 8]: blanks had 0’s inserted by fieldwork data processing. Reset to no answer (-4).
- ABS unemployment rates for major statistical regions (_hhura, all waves, introduced in release 8). Corrected to give unemployment rate total in each MSR, rather than unemployment rate for those seeking full-time work.
New variables
- New history variables from wave 6 onwards for mother’s and father’s schooling completed (_fmfsch, _fmmsch); whether completed a post-school qualification (_fmfpsq, _fmmpsq); and from which type of institution their highest qualification was obtained (_fmfhlq, _fmmhlq).
- Imputation of child care total cost (at household level) from wave 1 onwards:
- _csctci ‘DV: Child care total cost ($) [imputed] for all school age children during term, across all types of care. While parents work’.
- _chctci ‘DV: Child care total cost ($) [imputed] for all school age children during school holidays, across all types of care. While parents work’.
- _cpctci ‘DV: Child care total cost ($) [imputed] for all not yet at school children across all types of care. While parents work’.
- _nsctci ‘DV: Child care total cost ($) [imputed] for all school age children across all types of care. Not employment related’ (not wave 1 as questions were not asked).
- _npctci ‘DV: Child care total cost ($) [imputed] for all not yet at school children across all types of care. Not employment related’ (not wave 1 as questions were not asked).
- For consistency across waves, in the years the fertility module is asked (waves 5, 8 and 11) hicn renamed to hicniz (including 0). hicn is now a derived variable ‘DV: How many more children do you intend to have’ which excludes zero.
Renamed variables
- hbncna1 and hbncna (current pensions, no answer). Names swapped for consistency with prior waves.
- Father’s and mother’s schooling and institution where they received their highest level qualification: hfmfsch, hfmmsch, hfmfpsq, hfmfhlq, hfmmpsq, hfmmhlq renamed to hfmfschn, hfmmschn, hfmfpsqn, hfmfhlqn, hfmmpsqn, hfmmhlqn to allow creation of history variables.
