Changes to Wave 2 files made between Releases 2.0 (Jan 2004) and 3.0 (Jan 2005)
Cleaning
- One new person with no Country of Birth or Family Background data was asked a special revision questionnaire and the data updated; affects sections AA;BB;A;H & K.
- 6 relationships in 4 households backcoded from other specify; mostly grandparents; may affect family type.
- Why live with (for new entrants) revised for 2 households.
- Relationship grid corrected for 155 relationships in 98 households. Will affect household type; relationship in household and may affect family type and family number (bhhtype; bhhrih; bhhfam; bhhfty).
- Cleaned highest level of education (bedhigh); 70 cases that were year 12 became year 11 (as still at school); 5 other changes.
- DOB cleaned and age recalculated on basis of subsequent information.
- Total time since leaving school. If the respondent had some time in employment (behtjb > 0) and some time in unemployment (behtuj > 0) since leaving school, the time in employment is now correctly added to total time since leaving school (behtse).
- Weighted means substituted for truncated top-coded values in 145 income, age and wealth variables.
- Percent of financial year not in labour force (bcapnlf) now correctly calculated. Overlaps in activities now taken into account in calculations.
- Wave 2 responding person weight for statistical purposes (bhhwtrps) corrected.
- If the respondent had some time in employment (behtjb > 0) and some time in unemployment (behtuj > 0) since leaving school, the time in employment was added to the history variable of total time since leaving school (behtse).
- Current pensions and benefits (bbnc), foreign pensions removed, renamed to bbncaup.
- Master file: Variables for number of adults and number of adult respondent no longer swapped.
- Wealth: superannuation for retirees (bpwsupr) 9 cases set to refused as had incorrectly been set to zero. Superannuation for non-retirees (bpwsupwk) 135 cases set to refused or don't know as had incorrectly been set to zero. Superannuation imputation flags at person level corrected [imputed variables and flags at household level had been constructed correctly].
- Some wealth values were flagged as imputed when there was no apparent difference with the original data. This was because the values differed in the thirteenth through sixteenth decimal places after imputation. This has been corrected by rounding the imputed variable.

- bbncccbw, bbnfccb, bbnfccbh, bbnfccba, bbnfccbf, bbnfccbw).
- CPQ & NPQ B5 to B11 extended questions for employment status classification.
Documentation corrections
- All documentation updated.
- Derived and imputed income variable labels rewritten.
- Removed 'financial year' from variable label for top-coded current wages and salary; imputed version; and flag (bwsce, bwscei, bwscef).
- Marked-up questionnaire:

- Corrected minor discrepancies due to late removal of 2 persons just prior to release 2.0.

- The changes to the Wave 1 fields provided in Release 3.0 (compared with Release 2.0) are listed below.
Cleaning
- Relationship grids corrected. 124 relationships in 49 households altered as relationship not consistent over three waves. Variables affected: household type, relationship in household, family identifier, family type (ahhtype; ahhrih; ahhfam; ahhfty).
- Date of birth and age at wave 1 cleaned on basis of subsequent information.
Corrections in calculations
- Weighted means substituted for top-coded values in 42 income variables.
- Construction of highest level of education (aedhigh) changed to match construction at wave 2 (bedhigh); 446 of 450 undetermineds set to highest level of school. Corrected 3 cases from year 11 to year 12.
- Per cent of financial year not in labour force (acapnlf). Program error corrected.
- Home value, home mortgage, other loans, second mortgages (ahsvalue, ahsmgowe, ahslnowe, ahsslowe) were collected and supplied in $'000 in releases 1 & 2. Now multiplied by 1000 to conform with later waves.
- To overcome confusing annualized amounts in DVs for current wages and salary; current pensions and benefits; with financial year wages and salaries and pensions and benefits, the current amounts are now supplied as weekly amounts. Affects:

- In previous releases the wave 1 Household Form age (ahgage) was the age reported at date of household interview. As dates of birth have been updated, ahgage has been replaced with age at 30 June 2001. A new variable is supplied for age at date of personal interview (ahhiage).
- Pensions and benefits - current and financial year. Foreign pensions excluded; now Australian pensions and benefits (variables at release 1.0 were abnc and abnf, now abnfaup and abnffp; imputed versions were abnci and abnfi; now abncaupi and abnfaupi).
New variables
- An imputation flag for disposable income is now provided on the household file and enumerated file (ahifdif).
- Family variables household type (ahhtype), family identifier (ahhfam), family type (ahhfty), relationship in household (ahhrih) and income unit (ahhiu) added to Eperson file.
- Date of birth (ahgdob) [unconfidentialised datasets only] replaces ahgday, ahgmth & ahgyear for consistency with subsequent waves.
- ahhiage is age at date of interview, constructed from interview date and date of birth.
- ahgage replaces ahhfag on the responding person file; as it is the age at 30th of June copied from the household file.

- aujljrea (205) D20 Main reason stopped working renamed to aujljrsn.
