MITTS - GAUSS for Windows

The current version of the Melbourne Institute Tax and Transfer Simulator (MITTS) is written in the GAUSS for DOS programming language. This was a useful developmental tool, which took advantage of a broad suite of DOS-based interactive menus with which to control and amend parameter inputs into the simulation procedures. MITTS also includes some innovative and flexible designs in the procedures used to calculate tax liabilities and transfer entitlements, using the matrix-based structure of GAUSS.

Unfortunately, the newer versions of GAUSS (for Windows) did not contain the same user-interface capabilities as GAUSS for DOS. This has created some problems with the MITTS user community, many of whom operate exclusively on Windows platforms which are incompatible with GAUSS for DOS. For this reason, the Melbourne Institute has actively been exploring ways in which the current version of MITTS may be translated into a fully Windows-compatible form.
