Effects of the Working Nation social security reforms in July 1995: A policy simulation using MITTS

The Melbourne Institute Tax and Transfer Simulator (MITTS) will be used to examine the immediate effects of the Working Nation reforms by looking at winners and losers, measures of inequality and poverty and costings to the Government. In addition, the behavioural component of MITTS allows us to look at the effects of the policy changes after labour supply responses are accounted for. As the reforms took place many years ago it will also be possible to compare the outcomes of the simulations with the actual responses and effects.
