Effect of family composition and worklessness on the distribution of income and expenditure

The objective of this project is to investigate developments in the distribution of income and expenditure in Australia over the past 20 years. In particular we are interested in how changes in the structure of household units and in the workforce participation of members have impacted on income and expenditure distribution over time. We decompose changes in measures of inequality of disposable income and of family expenditure, examining such factors as workforce status and household or income unit structure, in order to gain a better understanding of why inequality has increased
