Effect of smoking ban regulations on smoking behaviour

This project is joint work by Dr Hielke Buddelmeyer and Dr Roger Wilkins.

In the past several years, various state governments have progressively introduced bans on smoking at different types of entertainment venues. This project examines whether those bans have affected smoking behaviour. The effect is identified by comparing changes in smoking behaviour between states where changes to regulations have and have not occurred (essentially a difference-in-difference method). Data from the HILDA survey (which includes a range of questions on smoking behaviour) is used.
